Japan’s Best-Selling Manga Volumes of 2025

As we approach the end of the year, it’s finally time to see what manga has been trending in 2025! Every year I get excited when Oricon releases their annual rankings. It’s always a fun look at what everyone in Japan has been buying, which series are still dominating, and which new releases have suddenly become must-haves. It’s also nice to see when some unexpected volumes make the charts.

What is Oricon?

For our readers new to manga, Oricon(オリコン株式会社)is a Japanese company that specializes in statistical data and information. They originally established themselves in Japan’s music industry (think like the Japanese version of Billboard), but have since expanded to other forms of entertainment, ranking anything from movies, TV shows, and books, to games, anime, manga and much more.

For manga, their data typically focuses on sales from a week-by-week basis, and they publish statistics for the entire year (November ~ November) usually around the first week of December. Because they track individual volume sales across Japan, when a series ranks high it’s a reliable indicator of its popularity.

For manga readers and collectors, Oricon’s weekly and yearly rankings can show:

  • which series are trending
  • which volumes had the biggest sales spike
  • which volumes might become harder (or pricier) to find later
  • general trends of what readers in Japan are consuming and how it may affect the US market

One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen Topping the Charts for Another Year

For 2025, One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen completely took over the charts again. It’s not a surprise as their story arcs have developed significantly. Global interest in One Piece also continues to rise since Netflix recently revealed that season 2 of the live-action adaptation is set for release in March 2026. In addition to the live action adding to the lore, WIT Studio is currently producing a new One Piece anime remake, titled The One Piece. It will start from the East Blue arc and aim for a more faithful adaptation of the manga, with improved pacing, updated animation, and a seasonal release format.

The reanimation aims to bring in new viewers, particularly since starting a series with 1,000+ episodes can be intimidating. If you’ve been curious about the One Piece manga but never started, now’s honestly the perfect time.

Oricon’s Annual Best-Selling Manga Ranking 2025

Many familiar series have made the list this year, so let’s take a deeper dive into it! Just as a note, the ranking is for most volumes sold over the year, not series in general.

No. 1 - One Piece, Volume 111

Author: Eiichiro Oda

Units Sold: 1,370,154 units

One Piece, which has been running in Weekly Shonen Jump since 1997, claimed the #1 spot in Oricon’s Annual Manga Ranking for 2025. This marks the series’ third year in a row at the top, continuing its streak from 2023 and 2024. Its win again shows just how strong its popularity remains even decades after it began publishing.

No. 2 & 3 - Jujutsu Kaisen Volumes 30, 29

Author: Gege Akutami

Volume 30 Units Sold: 1,329,993 units

Volume 29 Units Sold: 1,298,880 units

Taking both 2nd and 3rd place is Jujutsu Kaisen Volumes 30 and 29! Another manga that’s serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (since 2018), Jujutsu Kaisen is considered part of the newer age of manga. This follows its strong performance in previous years and highlights how the series continues to draw massive interest.

No. 4 - One Piece, Volume 112

Author: Eiichiro Oda

Units Sold: 1,217,769 units

In 4th place is One Piece again! As of the time of writing this blog, Volume 112 has not yet been released in the US, however fans can preorder it on Amazon and other retailers.

No. 5 - My Hero Academia, Volume 42

Author: Kohei Horikoshi

Units Sold: 977,955 units

In 5th place is My Hero Academia. It’s another series that’s been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2014. Even as the series approaches its later arcs, it continues to maintain strong sales year after year. Its blend of character-driven storytelling and superhero action is loved by many fans in Japan and internationally.

No. 6 - SPY x FAMILY, Volume 15

Author: Tatsuya Endo

Units Sold: 802,206 units

One of my personal favorites, SPY x FAMILY takes 6th place in Oricon’s Annual Manga Ranking for 2025! The series has remained a consistent bestseller thanks to its mix of comedy, action, and heartwarming family moments. A family with a secret agent father, an assassin mother, and a daughter who can read minds yet none of them know each other’s secret! A charming story and characters that connect with readers of all ages.

No. 7 - One Piece, Volume 113

Author: Eiichiro Oda

Units Sold: 796,155 units

In 7th place is One Piece again! As of the time of writing this blog, Volume 113 has not yet been released in the US yet. Unfortunately, preorders are not yet available, but I’ll update this post again once it is.

No. 8 - SPY x FAMILY, Volume 16

Author: Tatsuya Endo

Units Sold: 633,932 units

Next in 8th place we have SPY x FAMILY! Unfortunately, Volume 16 is not yet released in the US and preorders aren’t available yet either.

No. 9 - Kingdom, Volume 74

Author: Yasuhisa Hara

Units Sold: 583,210 units

Kingdom, Volume 74 takes the next spot on the list. Serialized since 2006, Kingdom is a massive historical epic that has been running for nearly two decades. Despite its long-standing success in Japan, the series has only recently begun releasing officially in the United States, giving international readers a chance to experience its sprawling battles and political drama. Volume 2 will be releasing mid-December, so now’s the perfect time to begin this series.

No. 10 - The Apothecary Diaries, Volume 15

Author: Natsu Hyuuga

Illustrator: Nekokurage

Units Sold: 566,342 units

Last but not least, The Apothecary Diaries Vol. 15 ranks in 10th place for this year. The series, known for its blend of court intrigue, mystery-solving, and sharp-witted characters, has steadily grown into one of the most beloved titles in recent years. While Vol. 15 has not yet been released in the United States, it’s available for preorder now. With the anime boosting global interest, the series continues to gain momentum both domestically and abroad.
